Poe and Gothic Creativity

Lisbon, 19-20 March, 2009


*Call for Papers

*Celebrating Edgar Allan Poe's 200th birthday, the American Studies
group
at the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies (Ulices)
invites you
to attend the International Symposium "Poe and Gothic Creativity". It
will
run parallel with cultural events in the city of Lisbon such as
exhibitions
in the National Library, the launching of a complete translation of
Poés
poetry, and other yet-unprecedented Gothic treats. The Symposium will
be
held at Faculdade de Letras, University of Lisbon, on March 19-20,
2009.

About the proposals*
Proposals should include the following data:
1. Name, title, institutional affiliation, address, phone/fax and
email
of the author.
2. Short bio-bibliography.
3. Title of paper.
4. Abstract: 250-500 words.
5. Audio-visual equipment needed.

*
Deadline and mailing address*
Proposals should be sent by December 15, 2008, to the organizers

*Guidelines*
1. Individual papers should be scheduled for 20 minutes.
Exceptionally
and subject to program arrangements, it may be possible to assign a
slightly
longer speaking period to papers which include the presentation of
audio-visual material. Authors wishing to take advantage of such a
possibility should indicate so in their proposals.
2. The languages for the symposium will be preferably English
and
Portuguese.
3. Acceptance notification will be sent by January 9, 2009.
4. By submitting an abstract, authors give permission to publish
it on
the conference web site and/or in the printed symposium booklet.
5. The organizers are keen on issuing a publication to mark the
celebrations, including papers given at the Conference. A digital
version of
the paper should be sent to the conference local organizers by May
31, 2009
